More details, please. PulseAudio is on by default in KDE installs for 11.4.
Seems like I may have to add my 2cents too. I had to uninstall pulse on 3 different machines to get a sane sound setup within KDE (haven't tested gnome's pulse integration). It seems to block the soundcard, like I could only start ekiga if I turned off sound in amarok and vice versa. Phonon backend switching didn't change the situation.
Are you running a i586 or a x86-64 machine? It seems to me that openSuSE has just forgotten about all of the i586 machine. That is unless they have Intel CPUs and HP printers. Your 2cents are appreciated to maybe wake up openSuSE. x86_64 but no, we don't forget about i586. In fact we need your feedback to fix such issues before we do a release.
I have told them about the defective gpm binary, bad /etc/init.d/gpm and /etc/sysconfig/mouse and no one has responded. Problem with Blender and sound on Amarok also. Have you filed bugs or tried to contact the package maintainers directly? The latter is usually more fruitful, rpm can tell you to whom you'd like to talk to. Packagers are a busy crowd, sometimes patience is key ;-)
I run a x86 box also and I have not encountered any of these weird problems. When Donn says he has hit some odd problem I go through the same process and experience no problems. PC's are pretty dumb critters when it comes to hardware fault detection and correction and in my experience, if I'm having weird problems no one other person is having, it's my hardware at fault and that's proved to be the case 100% of the time. Throw out the hardware and you throw out the problems. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ...
