So have you tried using a netinstall, and then selecting pure X or XFCE? There's also LXDE which you may be able to try out later, from OBS.
LXDE is a great idea actually although I wonder how much lighter it
actually is than Xfce... it does look prettier and tends to follow the
"looks more like Windows" thing that KDE and GNOME have gotten over
the years (no weird or funky panel placements etc.)
Integration is always going to be a problem but LXLauncher may just be
exactly the ticket for some applications like Netbooks..
Is it really that stable, that's the problem.. plus it would never get
into 11.2 as a selectable desktop which makes me wary of pushing it to
a production system (we really don't like the idea of having lots of
custom packages around, and developing with it outside of the SUSE
mainline means we get moving target syndrome al over again)
