Hi, I just updated to Tumbleweed 20170529 from whatever the
current-minus-1 release was, and Thunderbird is now unusable. It has
major graphical glitches that obscure most of the interface. The UI
elements sort of flash and appear/disappear as I move the mouse over
them. This is an example of what I'm seeing:
http://i.imgur.com/Dl4UdYP.png
http://i.imgur.com/oksucPY.png
(The only think I modified on these screenshots was blurring my personal
information. The large grey rectangles and abnormal white patches are
from this bug.)
I tried disabling all extensions (I only use one), and I confirmed that
I'm not using any custom Thunderbird skins. Also I tried reverting to
Adwaita. I also tried switching from the modesetting Xorg driver the
Intel driver, and I tried both Intel SNA and Intel UXA acceleration.
None of these changes made any difference.
I was able to work around the issue by reverting to this old version I
found here:

Is this intended? Looks kinda scary:

In the past, I have had i586 VirtualBox builds time out, but never an x86_64
build until today. The critical part of the log is as follows:
[ 2682s] Wrote: /home/abuild/rpmbuild/RPMS/x86_64/virtualbox-5.1.22-294.5.x86_64.rpm
[31483s] qemu-system-x86_64: terminating on signal 15 from pid 28327
Job seems to be stuck here, killed. (after 28800 seconds of inactivity)
[31483s] ### VM INTERACTION END ###
[31483s] No buildstatus set, either the base system is broken
(kernel/initrd/udev/glibc/bash/perl)
[31483s] or the build host has a kernel or hardware problem...
The job just goes to sleep until it gets killed for inactivity. Any ideas on
what is happening?
Thanks,
Larry

The
./amdgpu-pro-install --compute
command created a local amdgpu-pro repository and installed a few rpms.
There is some dkms stuff that I don't understand. Other than this, there
is a blacklist radeon entry for /etc/modprobe.d/ but, the radeon kernel
driver doesn't even support the rx480... So, I don't see what prevented
my boot (probably this dkms stuff).
After removing the installed amdgpu-pro packages, TW boots up normally.
Thank you all.
Now, I just manually copy the OpenCL driver parts to /opt/amdgpu-pro/ as
described here: https://community.amd.com/message/2788134
That seems to work :-)
Cheers,
Michael

Hello all,
Upon updating to Tumbleweed snapshot 20170516, resuming from hibernation
no longer works on my laptop. It hangs at a black screen after trying to
load the ramdisk.

[opensuse-factory] New snapshot delayed - but next one wil lbe GCC7 based
by Dominique Leuenberger / DimStar 30 May '17
by Dominique Leuenberger / DimStar 30 May '17
30 May '17
Dear Tumbleweed Users and Hackers,
There has not been a new snapshot in a couple days. This is a
combination of several factors:
* Many contributors have been at the awesome openSUSE conference
* On May 27, Tumbleweed has switched to GCC7 as its default compiler.
After being in Staging for a long time, we felt confident to have
ironed out the blocking issues
* We were wrong :(
Thanks to our brave Robby Engelmann (who updates a VM to 'Factory' at
the time openQA is not yet done testing - so before we call it
Tumbleweed), an issue could be identified just in time before the
snapshot was released.
The issue in short: mariadb did not like gcc7 that much; even though it
built just fine, it actually crashed in situations. Even if you don't
know you run a mariadb - if you're a KDE User and run akonadi, then
there is a mariadb instance on your system and you would have
suffered).
The great Fabian Vogt took all the time needed to hunt down the issue
and patched the package together to get this issue solved. The change
has been checked in to Factory by now and a new snapshot (titled 0529)
is currently building and will be reaching openQA in a couple hours.
It is to be expected that this snapshot will then be ready for prime
time and you should be receiving the update in the next day or so.
A major update like GCC always take a lot of preparation time and, as
it shows in this case, even then some things can slip through. Luckily,
no damage was done to any system in the wild yet.
I'd like to thank all the involved parties that helped chasing this
issue today and that helped to get openSUSE Tumbleweed back into a
rolling state. Future updates are supposed to roll in at a higher pace
again once this gcc7 - based snapshot is out.
Cheers,
Dominique

I am not sure which update this started occuring in, but I have suddenly lost
the ability to properly view, navigate and open files and folders written in
Chinese or Japanese in the terminal.
I can see and write the characters quite clearly in Dolphin.
This seems to lead to an inability to unzip and unrar files and folders if
they contain CJK characters.
This for example is what 王菲-心經-bAVWsXm1ToY.mkv and 般若波羅蜜多心經 - 黃思婷-
rUnNUqLgjTI.webm appear as in the terminal when there was no previous issue.
??????-??????-bAVWsXm1ToY.mkv
???????????????????????? - ?????????-rUnNUqLgjTI.webm
I tried to youtube-dl a video with CJK characters and this was the warning
that appeared:
WARNING: Assuming --restrict-filenames since file system encoding cannot
encode all characters. Set the LC_ALL environment variable to fix this.
I then opened /etc/sysconfig in Yast and navigated to System > Environment >
Language > RC_LC_ALL and filled in the empty option with en_GB.UTF-8, which I
presume to be the right option.
But the problem still persists. In fact, I also get weird files like "???c_?
.webm" where attempts to remove them from Dolphin show the message: "Unable
to run the command specified. The file or folder /home/rewarp/Videos/c_
.webm does not exist."
Is anyone able to help?

- Drop gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good-fix-tag-list-handling-issue.patch:
fixed upstream.
- Move plugins from extra subpackage to main subpackage:
libgstgdkpixbuf, libgstmonoscope, libgstsmpte, libgstspeex,
libgstvideobox. This only adds dependencies on gdk-pixbuf and
speex to the main subpackage, which is reasonable.
- Move plugins from main subpackage to extra subpackage:
libgstcacasink. We don't want to depend on the caca library by
default.
- Remove wrongs Provides from extra subpackage:
gst-plugins-good:%{_libdir}/gstreamer-%{gst_branch}/libgstvideo4linux2.so
This is wrong because the plugin is in the main subpackage.
- Add 32bit compatibility libraries
- Build against libv4l, so libv4lconvert.so gets loaded, which
gives Cheese et al using camerabin support for old,
JPEG-producing webcams (bnc#674287)
- Updated to version 0.10.28:
* Fix build issue with new kernels
- Increase the pulsesink chunk size to the buffer size for more
smooth playback (bnc#684781)
- added possible fix for gstreamer crashes (bnc#673914, bgo#641330)

* no changes since 1.4.99.901
- Update to version 1.4.99.901
* This is a release candidate of libXfont 1.5.0 - please test and
report any issues found, so we can have a final/stable release
soon to go with the xorg-server 1.16 release.
* *IMPORTANT* This release works with fontsproto 2.1.3 or later

cause the application to crash (bsc#1023807, CVE-2017-5836).
- 0014-Check-for-invalid-offset_size-in-bplist-trailer.patch fixes a
vulnerability by which a maliciously crafted file could cause libplist
to allocate large amounts of memory and consume lots of CPU
(bsc#1023822, CVE-2017-5835).
- 0017-Fix-possible-out-of-bounds-read-in-parse_array_node-with-proper-bounds-checking.patch

same way but they retain the information of the commits from upstream
that fix it and add another check for a pointer to be inside bounds
(boo#1019531, CVE-2017-5209)
- Add 0001-Prevent-OOB-heap-buffer-read-by-checking-input-size.patch
This patch (from upstream, rebased) prevents an OOB heap buffer
read which could allow attackers to obtain sensitive information
from process memory or cause a DoS (bsc#1021610, CVE-2017-5545).
- Fixed CVE-2017-5209 and boo#1019531: The base64decode function
in base64.c allows attackers to obtaiin sensitive info from
process memory or cause a denial of service (buffer over-read)
via split encoded Apple Property List data.
- Added patch CVE-2017-5209.patch
* Rework base64decode to handle spliti encoded data correctly
* The credit goes to Nikias Bassen <nikias(a)gmx.li>, here's just
a backport of the upstream commit

==== vsftpd ====
- Fix interoperability issue with various ftp clients that arose
when vsftpd is configured with option "use_localtime=YES".
Basically, it's fine to use local time stamps in directory

other than UTC directly violates RFC3659 and leads FTP clients to
misinterpret the file's time stamp. [bsc#1024961]
- Fix several issues related to SSL/TLS support [bsc#1021387]:
* vsftpd-enable-sendto-for-prelogin-syslog.patch allows sendto()
to be called from check_limits(), which is necessary for vsftpd
to write to the system log.
* vsftpd-openlog-force.patch fixes a logic error in the way the
force option for syslog's openlog() call was handled.
* vsftpd-seccomp-ssl.patch allows stat() to be called, which is
required during SSL initialization by RAND_load_file().
* vsftpd-seccomp-wait4.patch allows wait4() to be called so that
the broker can wait for its child processes.
