[opensuse-factory] firefox and beagle

I did a default gnome install with beta 3 and the beagle firefox extension got installed. However the default gnome setup did not include the desktop beagle extension and everytime I launched firefox, it complained about the .beagle directory not being accessible. After installing the desktop indexer, the error message is gone. [opensuse-factory] Black screen after user login

When root logs in the desktop appears and 11.0 beta3 runs as normal but when i user logs in, they get a black screen (no icons no nothing). This is not a screen saver as this happens right after a login. [opensuse-factory] opensuse discontinuing rpmbuild ??

Is it true that openSuSE has discontinued support for rebuilding rpms for their systems with 'rpmbuild'? When did that change go through? [opensuse-factory] Unused direct dependencies

I make a quick test on openSUSE 10.3, not sure about how it's in Factory but I don't see a better mailing list. I just run "ldd -u -r /usr/bin/*" and... the list is big!!! Someone has looked the problem in detail? Is memory usage or startup time notably increased because of this? In any case these unused direct dependencies, even if they are indirect dependencies, end like *unneeded* "requires" in RPM metadata, correct? What impact have them in metadata size and resolver time? There are some cases where the number is *really* high. $ readelf -d /usr/bin/vumeter | grep NEEDED | wc -l 61 $ ldd -u -r /usr/bin/vumeter | wc -l 53 Note that I have no idea what vumeter is, it's just a random example I saw it in the list. There are easy solutions? I just noticed that the memtest installed on the boot dvd is rather old (version 2). Any chances to upgrade it to the latest? There is lot of hardware not supported by this old version. I have never been able to get the update mechanism to work. I have seen lots of threads on this topic though. It's not that I am new to SUSE either. I don't think it make sense to go into much detail since we are about to move to RC1. So I will ask, will I see the update zypper manager work properly with RC1 ? [opensuse-factory] Pulse-Audio rights (pulse-rt group)

Hi list, This post might be a bit off-topic, nevertheless it goes together with development of new versions. I just tested yesterday VLC 0.9 (also not released yet, but RPMs are available), which also supports Pulse-Audio. Weel, what can I say: it 'works', as to say the best of it. But the sound is very choppy. Actually Fedora has the same issue (talked with some group members). Adding the user to the group pulse-rt apparently fixes this issue and gives enough privileges on those devices. What mechanism is there in place to 'escalate' those privileges on the go? Maybe something like PolicyKit, granting an application to have it's users join a specific group or so? What's the risk of putting everybody in the group pulse-rt (or have it's devices de-coupled and add them to users, to not have to add everybody to that group in plus?) [opensuse-factory] no automagic reboot?

Hello, Is there any way to disable the automatic reboot at the end of installation? I know, I have ten seconds to cancel it, but it is quite boring to wait for it :-) If there isn't (and I could not find anything related on http://en.opensuse.org/linuxrc ), then I'll add a feature request for it. Background: I have a PPC machine, where the installer does not install a bootable kernel. Right now all I can do is to boot inst32, go through all of the linuxrc menus up to the point where I can start an installed OS. Then once installation is finished, then go to the command line and run: mkzimage --vmlinux /boot/vmlinux --initrd /boot/initrd --cmdline root=/dev/sdaX --output /boot/zImage (or just mkzimage --vmlinux /boot/vmlinux --initrd /boot/initrd --output /boot/zImage , as most users prefer to add boot parameters at firmware level, and it would also make scripting of it simpler). Of course, the ideal situation would be, if Olaf did not oppose this solution, and it was done automagically on each kernel install/upgrade. But until that I would like to do this before rebooting the machine and without needing to catch that 10 seconds, so going through linuxrc menus could be avoided and the real kernel could be used.
