what does -U do?
Updates the package if its installed or installs if not.
man rpm or rpm --help
for other options
Take care

the package name and filename are not the same. I don't know the details to hand but package java-clients might have a filename like java-clients-2.0.1.i586.rpm or similar. Try: rpm -qa | grep java to see the java packages installed. -- Simon Kelsall
i tried but it just repeats the prompt back to me it doesnt give me any information

Yes.

OOo probably doesn't support all VMs. I'm not sure I'd worry about it too much, I don't think OOo uses Java for anything useful. - -- Cheers, Chris Howells -- chris@chrishowells.co.uk, howells@kde.org Web: http://chrishowells.co.uk, PGP ID: 33795A2C KDE/Qt/C++ Developer: http://www.kde.org -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-rc1-SuSE (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE++bawF8Iu1zN5WiwRAu1tAJ0V5AAdLsFjRg6gdHwFFel9vTc62ACffIFm huRMnuwtl7i3fD25eNjCoPk= =bnZm -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
i need to make sure that all parts of OOo are working ing im going to impress the very skeptical staff where i work. They havent had any it support for all the time they've had rm (which is now on its knees begging for mercy) and now were putting in nymph thin client. I just want to make sure they get the full use out of the software so they dont start buying M$ licenses again. How do i get a VM that OOo does support?
