In a recent build of: http://build.opensuse.org/package/live_build_log? arch=i586&project=server%3Aha- clustering&repository=Mandriva_2006&package=openais
'uname -p' expanded into "Dual-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 8214" and broke the makefile (due to various quoting issues)
Is such a value to be expected? Should I perhaps be using 'uname -i' instead if I'm looking for i386/ x86_64/... ?
slackware has a similar issue.
uname -p on suse just reports x86_64
Yes, but you cannot rely on this: $ linux32 uname -p athlon "uname -i" should be used for this since it prints i386 and not i586 or i686 on IA32.
