[Bug 449982] New: hwinfo --dsl does not list pppoe devices
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=449982 Summary: hwinfo --dsl does not list pppoe devices Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: snwint@novell.com ReportedBy: lnussel@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: mzugec@novell.com Found By: Development I don't know whether this is a bug in hwinfo or in YaST. The YaST dsl module calls hwinfo --dsl but that doesn't scan for pppoe dsl devices (hwinfo --pppoe does that). So either YaST needs to additionally call hwinfo --pppoe or hwinfo --dsl needs to be changed to also scan for pppoe devices. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Do you want to merge output from hwinfo --dsl and hwinfo --pppoe?
I'm in the role of the user here, so I don't know what I want ;-) It's up to you to decide how the best implementation looks like, you are the yast2 network expert.
If possible, can you give me ssh access to some testing machine with pppoe?
I don't actually have a pppoe modem here. I used pppoe-server (package rp-pppoe) for testing. E.g # pppoe-server -F -I eth1 -L 192.168.66.1 -R 192.168.66.100 Reinhard Max has a real one though. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

hwinfo --dsl != --pppoe. Don't remember why, though.
Could it be that --dsl was meant for detecting DSL modems that are connected via PCI or USB and need some drivers and initialisation to get the DSL link up before you can start the PPPoE detection? (In reply to comment #3 from Ludwig Nussel)

No, I don't, because there is no such thing as a PPPoE modem. ;) The modem is just an ethernet bridge that doesn't care for the kind of ethernet frames it exchanges between the LAN and the ISP's network. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
