Is it reproduceable?
right now I can't reproduce this problem anymore -- at least not without new installation for which I don't have the resources, sorry.... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

close now as WORKSFORME.
new weirdness after updating from beta4 to beta5 via DVD: after cold reboot I again inserted the beta5 DVD. now I got _two_ instances of the file browser in xfce. even worse: trying to eject the DVD via the button of the drive I get this message twice: Failed to eject "/org/freeedesktop/Hal/ devices/storage_serial_HE25_138066". Given device "/org/freeedesktop/Hal/devices/ storage_serial_HE25_138066" is not a volume or drive. every pressing on the drive's eject button gives another two messages boxes, ejecting does not work :-( I only got hands on the DVD media by running the "eject" program as root... on the same topic (preface of the above): after that reboot of beta5 _with_ DVD media inserted(!) I found an empty directory /media/SU1110.001/ with nothing mounted. after ejecting reinserting the DVD, the media was mounted on /media/SU1110.001_/ with /media/SU1110.001/ staying empty/unused. more details after the next reboot... ?!? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

more details after the next reboot... ?!?
next reboot without DVD inserted, /media/ is empty after user login. I inserted the DVD and again I got two file browser showing the DVD. I closed both browser and tried to eject the media via drive button: again two messages boxes (btw. showing up in the middle of the screen exactly on top of each other so that you see only one window until moving the top window away), eject via drive button does not work :-( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Stale directories and other weird effects can happen if you restart hal (which likely happened during update).
in comment 7, I cleanly started without stale directories, same problems.
The file browser issues sound like an xfce problem. Please file a separate bug. closing again.
at a fist glance I don't care about the xfce file browser(s) or messages boxes -- I always close them a I'm keyboard based;) my main point is, that something seems to go wrong _below_ xfce, esp. that eject does not work at all using the drive's button! (forget about the two message windows for now. they might be an issue for another xfce ticket, but likely they vanish once the lower (hal?) problem got fixed... if I'm wrong with my guess that it's not an xfce issue, how can I test this assumption (best without kde or gnome;) ? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't know whether the eject button ever worked.
it worked in beta4 with xfce4, and in beta5 it still works with fvmw2 (which does not mount at all -- as expected). FYI: with USB sticks I get two instances of Thunar too using xfce4.
Even if the button triggers an event it would be the duty of the desktop to react on it. So not a problem in the packages I maintain.
sounds reasonable... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When I reboot with drive present during login (and also during reboot). I was able to sucesfully eject cd using eject button. After that I put cd into drive again and repeat. I get error pop up again.
same here with 11.1-final: eject does not work with xfce -- you have to be root and run "eject" :-( more details: after some tracking with strace I can reproduce this error by running exo-eject -h /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_DVD_RAM_UJ_862 which shows Failed to eject "/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/ storage_model_DVD_RAM_UJ_862". Given device "/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/ storage_model_DVD_RAM_UJ_862" is not a volume or drive. so what's the problem with exo-eject (or with that hal device string)? I got the hal device via cut'n'paste from harald > lshal | grep DVD scsi.model = 'DVD-RAM UJ-862' (string) udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_DVD_RAM_UJ_862' block.storage_device = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_DVD_RAM_UJ_862' (string) info.product = 'DVD-RAM UJ-862' (string) info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_DVD_RAM_UJ_862' (string) storage.model = 'DVD-RAM UJ-862' (string) block.storage_device = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_DVD_RAM_UJ_862' (string) info.parent = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_DVD_RAM_UJ_862' (string) full hal device data: harald > lshal -u /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_DVD_RAM_UJ_862 udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_DVD_RAM_UJ_862' access_control.file = '/dev/sr0' (string) access_control.type = 'cdrom' (string) block.device = '/dev/sr0' (string) block.is_volume = false (bool) block.major = 11 (0xb) (int) block.minor = 0 (0x0) (int) block.storage_device = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_DVD_RAM_UJ_862' (string) info.addons = {'hald-addon-storage'} (string list) info.callouts.add = {'hal-acl-tool --add-device'} (string list) info.callouts.remove = {'hal-acl-tool --remove-device'} (string list) info.capabilities = {'storage', 'block', 'storage.cdrom', 'access_control'} (string list) info.category = 'storage' (string) info.interfaces = {'org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Storage', 'org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Storage', 'org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Storage.Removable'} (string list) info.parent = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_8086_2850_scsi_host_scsi_device_lun0' (string) info.product = 'DVD-RAM UJ-862' (string) info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_DVD_RAM_UJ_862' (string) info.vendor = 'MATSHITA' (string) linux.hotplug_type = 3 (0x3) (int) linux.sysfs_path = '/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.1/host3/target3:0:0/3:0:0:0/block/sr0' (string) org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Storage.method_argnames = {'extra_options', 'extra_options'} (string list) org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Storage.method_execpaths = {'hal-storage-eject', 'hal-storage-closetray'} (string list) org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Storage.method_names = {'Eject', 'CloseTray'} (string list) org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Storage.method_signatures = {'as', 'as'} (string list) storage.automount_enabled_hint = true (bool) storage.bus = 'pci' (string) storage.cdrom.bd = false (bool) storage.cdrom.bdr = false (bool) storage.cdrom.bdre = false (bool) storage.cdrom.cdr = true (bool) storage.cdrom.cdrw = true (bool) storage.cdrom.dvd = true (bool) storage.cdrom.dvdplusr = true (bool) storage.cdrom.dvdplusrdl = true (bool) storage.cdrom.dvdplusrw = true (bool) storage.cdrom.dvdplusrwdl = false (bool) storage.cdrom.dvdr = true (bool) storage.cdrom.dvdram = true (bool) storage.cdrom.dvdrdl = true (bool) storage.cdrom.dvdrw = true (bool) storage.cdrom.hddvd = false (bool) storage.cdrom.hddvdr = false (bool) storage.cdrom.hddvdrw = false (bool) storage.cdrom.mo = false (bool) storage.cdrom.mrw = true (bool) storage.cdrom.mrw_w = true (bool) storage.cdrom.read_speed = 11080 (0x2b48) (int) storage.cdrom.support_media_changed = true (bool) storage.cdrom.support_multisession = true (bool) storage.cdrom.write_speed = 11080 (0x2b48) (int) storage.cdrom.write_speeds = {'11080', '8310', '5540', '2770'} (string list) storage.drive_type = 'cdrom' (string) storage.hotpluggable = false (bool) storage.lun = 0 (0x0) (int) storage.media_check_enabled = true (bool) storage.model = 'DVD-RAM UJ-862' (string) storage.no_partitions_hint = true (bool) storage.originating_device = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer' (string) storage.partitioning_scheme = '' (string) storage.removable = true (bool) storage.removable.media_available = true (bool) storage.removable.media_size = 4658429952 (0x115aa0000) (uint64) storage.removable.support_async_notification = false (bool) storage.requires_eject = true (bool) storage.size = 0 (0x0) (uint64) storage.vendor = 'MATSHITA' (string) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
