[Bug 207645] New: /etc/crontab has to be writable
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=207645 Summary: /etc/crontab has to be writable Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: martin@oneiros.de QAContact: qa@suse.de from cron(8): CAVEATS In this version of cron, /etc/crontab must not be writable by any user other than root. No crontab files may be links, or linked to by any other file. No crontab files may be executable, or be writable by any user other than their owner. But if /etc/crontab has these permissions: -r--r--r-- 1 root root cron complains /usr/sbin/cron[3664]: (*system*) BAD FILE MODE (/etc/crontab) this goes away if the file is writeable by root. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=207645 ------- Comment #1 from mkoenig@novell.com 2006-09-27 07:21 MST ------- Because it is default Suse policy to have /etc/crontab with 644 permissions. But of course, cron behaviour should not depend on the owner write permissions of the crontab file. Will change this in stable only. Note, if you really want to run with a 444 /etc/crontab, you will also want to change your security policy in /etc/sysconfig/security. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
