[Bug 359379] New: Multiple swap-entries in /etc/fstab => gcc " segmentation fault"
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=359379 Summary: Multiple swap-entries in /etc/fstab => gcc "segmentation fault" Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Uwe.Beierlein@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer Hello, it seems that problematic entries in fstab (swap on both: /deb/sda2 and /deb/sdb2) ================================================================================ /dev/md1 / ext3 acl,user_xattr,usrquota 1 1 /dev/md0 /boot ext2 acl,user_xattr 1 2 /dev/sda2 swap swap pri=42 0 0 /dev/sdb2 swap swap pri=42 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0 proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0 ================================================================================ caused confusion in memory management. For example, gcc terminated with a "segmentation fault" during compilation (gcc -o test test.c) of: ================================================================================ int main(void) { return 0; } ================================================================================ Deleting one of the entries in /etc/fstab cured the problem (so far). Partition table: │/dev/sda │ 232.8 GB│ │Hitachi-HDT72502│ │ │/dev/sda1│ 54.8 MB│ │Linux RAID │ │ │/dev/sda2│ 1.0 GB│ │Linux swap │swa│ │/dev/sda3│ 231.8 GB│ │Linux RAID │ │ │/dev/sdb │ 232.8 GB│ │Hitachi-HDT72502│ │ │/dev/sdb1│ 54.8 MB│ │Linux RAID │ │ │/dev/sdb2│ 1.0 GB│ │Linux swap │ │ │/dev/sdb3│ 231.8 GB│ │Linux RAID │ │ │/dev/md0 │ 54.8 MB│ │MD Raid │/bo│ │/dev/md1 │ 231.8 GB│ │MD Raid │/ │ Was the second entry in fstab really invalid? And even if - the system has 2GB RAM - why did the kernel touch the swap during compilation? It is a 32Bit installation with an AMD Opteron 1212HE processor - did the configuration exceed the 32bit-boundary (2GB RAM + 2GB swap + magic?).
