[Bug 331950] New: NetXtreme does not acquire IP address from dhcp server on boot
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=331950 Summary: NetXtreme does not acquire IP address from dhcp server on boot Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: adamk@voicenet.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- The chipset is: [adamk@sorrow ~]$ lspci | grep Ether 0b:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5752 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 02) When it gets to the point where it tries to acquire an IP address, the countdown appears, but it never gets one. Once I log in a the console, I am able to '/sbin/ifup eth0' the interface, and all is well. I actually did a network install of 10.3, and the card managed to acquire the address then. I will attach /var/log/boot.msg but here's the interesting part: Checking for network time protocol daemon (NTPD): unused doneWaiting for mandatory devices: eth0 __NSC__ 19 18 17 16 15 14 13 11 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 1 0 eth0 device: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5752 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 02) eth0 is down failed eth0 interface could not be set up until now failedSetting up service network . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . failed And, once I login: [adamk@sorrow ~]$ ping 192.168.0.1 connect: Network is unreachable [adamk@sorrow ~]$ sudo /sbin/ifup eth0 eth0 device: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5752 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 02) Checking for network time protocol daemon (NTPD): unused [adamk@sorrow ~]$ ping 192.168.0.1 PING 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=6.78 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.714 ms This appears similar to https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=327676 as both have to do with the tg3 module, but I don't have ifplugd running at all. Same system works fine with a 32 bit install of Feisty, so if it's a problem with the the kernel driver, feisty must be patching it (or perhaps it's a 32 vs 64 bit issue). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
