[Bug 249301] New: hundreds of dead /usr/lib64/beagle/IndexHelper.exe processes make X unusable
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=249301
Summary: hundreds of dead /usr/lib64/beagle/IndexHelper.exe
processes make X unusable
Product: openSUSE 10.2
Version: Final
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Major
Priority: P5 - None
Component: GNOME
AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com
ReportedBy: trenn@novell.com
QAContact: qa@suse.de
Symptom: You cannot start any X based application any more:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Maximum number of clients reached
Reason: Hundreds of /usr/lib64/beagle/IndexHelper.exe processes. Each of them
tries to open a connection(socket) to the X server:
ps aux |grep -c IndexHelper
460
X seem to only allow 255 (or near this value) connections.
The /usr/lib64/beagle/IndexHelper.exe processes seem to all get stuck at when
trying to connect to (another, not the sockect to X) socket:
strace -p 1856
Process 1856 attached - interrupt to quit
connect(16, {sa_family=AF_FILE,
path="/tmp/beagle-trenn-337fb988-32c4-440b-af22-b8c18c8a816f/socket-helper"},

It's possible that this is related to another error (/var/log/warn)?:

That said, can you attach one or two of your ~/.beagle/Log/*-IndexHelper files? Only one index helper process is supposed to exist at a time. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=249301 ------- Comment #4 from joeshaw@novell.com 2007-03-15 15:01 MST ------- Can you duplicate this problem reliably? I think the issue is that the main daemon process is spawning the index helper process, waiting some period of time for it to connect (which it doesn't because it's blocking on connecting to the socket), gives up, and tries again. It would be helpful if you could start beagled by hand using "beagled --fg --debug" and see if the problem persists. Unfortunately by default the logging level is very low, so there isn't much info in the log files you attached. (And it's only half of the story, I need to see *-Beagle* log files as well.) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
