[Bug 227470] New: ralink rt61pci driver doesn't work
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227470 Summary: ralink rt61pci driver doesn't work Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: markus.kossmann@schlundmail.de QAContact: qa@suse.de I can't get a Level-One WNC-301 WIFI card (based on a RaLink RT2561/RT61) working with the rt61pci driver module. SUSE-10.2 includes the rt61pci module in the standard kernel. First problem was, that there is no package containing the firmware for that chip. Got the firmware from rt20xx.serialmonkey.com and installed it to /lib/firmware. Now the module loads the module without complaining about missing firmware. Then configured it in yast manually as wlan0 ( no autodetect in yast). But yast can#t produce a working configuration. ifup wlan0 shows : wlan0 device: RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI command 'iwconfig wlan0 nick linux-161r' returned Error for wireless request "Set Nickname" (8B1C) : SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported. command 'iwconfig wlan0 channel 6' returned Error for wireless request "Set Frequency" (8B04) : SET failed on device wlan0 ; Input/output error. And sometimes there is a kernel-oops caused by the driver: Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: irq 217: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option) Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: Call Trace: Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: <IRQ> [<ffffffff802a91b0>] __report_bad_irq+0x30/0x7d Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: [<ffffffff802a93e0>] note_interrupt+0x1e3/0x224 Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: [<ffffffff802a88db>] __do_IRQ+0xc7/0x105 Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: [<ffffffff8020fef1>] __do_softirq+0x5e/0xd5 Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: [<ffffffff80265d68>] do_IRQ+0x65/0x73 Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: [<ffffffff80264613>] default_idle+0x0/0x50 Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: [<ffffffff80258509>] ret_from_intr+0x0/0xa Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: <EOI> [<ffffffff8022e31d>] unix_poll+0x0/0x96 Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: [<ffffffff8026463c>] default_idle+0x29/0x50 Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: [<ffffffff802451ba>] cpu_idle+0x95/0xb8 Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: [<ffffffff805da7a3>] start_kernel+0x21b/0x220 Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: [<ffffffff805da28a>] _sinittext+0x28a/0x28e Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: handlers: Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: [<ffffffff8818352a>] (rt61pci_interrupt+0x0/0xad [rt61pci]) Dec 10 17:54:45 linux-161r kernel: Disabling IRQ #217 Should I try a newer version of that driver from serialmonkey or should I switch to ndiswrapper. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227470 ------- Comment #7 from markus.kossmann@gmx.de 2006-12-11 13:04 MST ------- It compiles and loads fine, but iwconfig reports: ra0 no wireless extensions So any try to start it the normal way by creating a /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-ra0 file and doing a "ifup ra0" fails with errormessages from iwconfig. Might it be that the driver depends on an older version of wireless extensions than shipped with SUSE-10.2 ? What is the status of driver version 1.1.0.0 ( from http://www.ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm) ? Might it work better with the 2.6.18.2 kernel coming with SUSE-10.2 ? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227470 ------- Comment #8 from allau@novell.com 2006-12-12 20:45 MST ------- The driver should already include the fireware in the header file so you don't really need the old firmware, and you can try ... I havn't get time to test on openSUSE 10.2 yet I will let you know when I get time to test it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
