[Bug 973468] New: zypper up tries to install 178 new packages
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=973468 Bug ID: 973468 Summary: zypper up tries to install 178 new packages Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Upgrade Problems Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: devin@six19.com QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:47.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/47.0 Build Identifier: Today when I tried to do `zypper up` on a Tumbleweed server running a minimal install, it wants to install 178 new packages that appear to be desktop related packages. See here: http://paste.opensuse.org/view/raw/65135695 I had this happen a few months ago on 13.2. In that case it was caused by the svn package. Here's that bug report: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=942819 This time its obviously being caused by a different package but I'm not sure which one. Is there some way that I can identify which package has all of these new deps? `--no-recommends` seems to improve the situation but it still tries to pull in 70 new packages that I don't think I want on a minimal server install: http://paste.opensuse.org/view/raw/17416147 Thanks Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run `sudo zypper dup` Actual Results: Tries to pull in loads of new packages. Expected Results: Lots of updates but very little, if any, new packages. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Unfortunately zypper does not offer a detailed introspection, which could help to analyze 'why' which package has been chosen. You had to call e.g. 'zypper in --dry-run bundle-lang-common-en-13.2-17.2' or 'zypper up --dry-run bundle-lang-common-en' for each package dup wants to upgrade, in order to see what this particular package it will require. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thanks!! I went ahead and did that and I found the package that is pulling in all the new deps. It is: python-gobject This appears to be a default package because its a dependency of snapper-zypp-plugin. Should I change this bug report to be against Basesystem? I'm used to Fedora where I can file against a specific package. Thanks, Devin -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
