I use KDE4 on the 64-bit system and KDE3 on the 32-bit systems. On all three systems I observe occasional system freeze close to the end of the shutdown process. If the splashscreen is on, I cannot switch anymore to the text console via ESC, the progress bar is at 100% (as far as I can see, or at least close to 100%). In case of shutdown no power-off is performed, in case of reboot I need to press the reset button to continue. If I switch off the splashscreen before the (potential) freeze, the last message on the screen before standstill is either "Sending all processes the TERM signal" or "System will be shutdown immediately". Please note that this intermittent hangup during shutdown happens also with other hardware and configurations. I have the suspicion that this hangup at shutdown is more likely, if the configuration of the sound setup was altered during the session.
