[Bug 1027349] New: Middle Button of Lenovo Thinkpad E575 Not Recognized by libinput
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1027349 Bug ID: 1027349 Summary: Middle Button of Lenovo Thinkpad E575 Not Recognized by libinput Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 42.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: AlexRArmstrong@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- With a fresh instillation of Leap 42.2 or Tumbleweed, the middle trackpoint button is not recognized at all. Hardware: Lenovo 2017 E575 Thinkpad AMD A10-9600P x86-64 Software: openSUSE Leap 42.2 (Tried first, moved to Tumbleweed for testing) openSUSE Tumbleweed -Kernel 4.10.0.1-default libinput 1.6.1-1.1 On previous generations Thinkpads the middle button would act as both a normal middle button and provide scrolling when used with the trackpoint stick. This works on a 2016 E565 Thinkpad using a standard Leap 42.2 install. But with the E575 I have no response from the center button - no middle click, no scroll. When I run libinput-debug-events I see that the TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint, ThinkPad Extra Buttons, and SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad are monitored (among others). And events are reported for typing, moving the pointer (via external mouse, touch pad and trackpoint stick), and clicking all the buttons except the for the middle trackpoint button. The middle trackpoint button reports no events at all. Here is the output of 'grep "Using input" /var/log/Xorg.0.log': [ 41.972] (II) Using input driver 'libinput' for 'Power Button' [ 41.999] (II) Using input driver 'libinput' for 'Video Bus' [ 42.022] (II) Using input driver 'libinput' for 'Video Bus' [ 42.038] (II) Using input driver 'libinput' for 'Power Button' [ 42.070] (II) Using input driver 'libinput' for 'Sleep Button' [ 42.089] (II) Using input driver 'libinput' for 'Microsoft Microsoft 3-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM)' [ 42.250] (II) Using input driver 'libinput' for 'Integrated Camera' [ 42.290] (II) Using input driver 'libinput' for 'AT Translated Set 2 keyboard' [ 42.357] (II) Using input driver 'synaptics' for 'SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad' [ 42.450] (II) Using input driver 'libinput' for 'TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint' [ 42.502] (II) Using input driver 'evdev' for 'TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint' [ 42.553] (II) Using input driver 'libinput' for 'ThinkPad Extra Buttons' [ 435.500] (II) Using input driver 'libinput' for 'Microsoft Microsoft 3-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM)' Note the two entries for 'TPPS/2 IBM Trackpoint' one using libinput the other using evdev. I was confused by this - could it be related? Please let me know what further information I can provide or tests to perform. -Alex -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is this a kernel regression, i.e. it worked in older distros? You can try to install the openSUSE-42.1 kernel on top of 42.2 system, for example, to see whether it works with 4.1.x kernel.
No, it's not a regression. I tested with the 4.1.x series and had the same behavior - middle button isn't recognized. I guess Lenovo changed the hardware and didn't tell us. -Alex -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
