[Bug 267798] New: opensuse 10.2 hangs completely without warning
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=267798 Summary: opensuse 10.2 hangs completely without warning Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: cedric.diau@airliquide.com QAContact: qa@suse.de IBM NetVista 8304-82G Pentium 4 (2.66GHz 512KB) Memory - 768MB DDR Video adapters - Integrated Intel 845G I've upgraded my Suse 9.3 to opensuse 10.2 from a downloaded DVD ISO. Everything seems to run reasonably well, apart from the fact that occasionally, the whole installation hangs completely and will not accept any input (mouse, keyboard). The only way to resolve the matter is to switch off power, and switch on again. I use Gnome as desktop environment. I used a nfs mounted home, I've changed for a local home but it's still the same. I've saw on www.suseforums.net that some other peoples have the same problem. I'll try to update my BIOS and I'll see on what occurs but without conviction. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=267798 ------- Comment #5 from kkeil@novell.com 2007-04-25 11:25 MST ------- No this 'e1000_clean_tx_irq: Detected Tx Unit Hang' is a known issue with some e1000 cards but this will not hang the complete system, this error only affects the network connection (stop it for about 20 sec). After these 20 sec the network connection is reestablished and installation should be go ahead. So this is unrelated to this bug. Maybe if the 'e1000_clean_tx_irq: Detected Tx Unit Hang' message occurs at the point were the system hangs, it maybe caused by messing up the CPU/DMA engine or the PCI bridge, e.g, because starting X do something nasty with the VGA card. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Did you found out something? If not try to run Linux for some time without xserver, eventually try to run some hw tests ( memcheck, cpuburn ) to be sure that hardware is ok. You can also try to switch graphics card driver to vesa ( should be safer ). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

For the moment that seems better, but as it is not then a long time I remain vigilant.
