OK, this may end up "INVALID": It seems you changed the data format for the updates within the product lifetime: Where previously there were fixed file names like "primary.xml.gz" (that would overwrite themselves with the current version), you seem to use "version-stamped" filenames now.
Yes. We need this change for different reasons - the most important benefit was the possibility to have the "right" file also available on our mirror servers, so: * our users get the (sometimes big) files also from a near by mirror * it's easier for all to detect an outdated mirror server * we save some bandwith on the master server We tested the new behaviour with all our tools and didn't catch any problem with this new setup - so from our perspective, this looks indeed like an "INVALID".
I had written software to fetch the new updates for a non-connected machine to be updated, and that software needs a change. I'd appreciate a specification for the repository format.
The initial discussion about the change can be found here: http://osdir.com/ml/linux.rpm.metadata/2008-09/index.html#00012 You should find further specificataions here: http://en.opensuse.org/Standards/RPM_metadata Reassigning to you, Duncan: you might add additional information/links about the current specification... -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The second reference contains outdated links for the most interesting parts, e.g. "Read here for more information on RPM-MD" (http://linux.duke.edu/projects/metadata/) And the URI used for XML validation (http://linux.duke.edu/metadata/repo, http://linux.duke.edu/metadata/common, http://linux.duke.edu/metadata/rpm, http://novell.com/package/metadata/suse/common) are invalid also.
