[Bug 766598] New: yast ncurses and "allow vendor change"
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=766598 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=766598#c0 Summary: yast ncurses and "allow vendor change" Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: gs@suse.com ReportedBy: ke@suse.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: Documentation Blocker: --- yast ncurses seems to support the "allow vendor change" option (hidden in the Dependencies menu), but behave different than yast-gtk. If you set "allow vendor change" with yast-gtk, yast ncurses does not see it (option is not checked). It you enable "allow vendor change" with yast ncurses and press "apply", it is not saved for the next time when you start sw_single again. yast-gtk saves this option for the next session. (PS. Thus far, I did not test whether it actually works.) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

At the moment the qt package selector saves the settings in qt ~/.config/YaST2/YQPackageSelector.conf, the gtk package selector saves it as well but at another place and ncurses doesn't save it at all.
Idependently of the question whether or where to store these solver settings, it is IMO a _bad_ idea if even the different YAST UIs use different solver settings. It's bad enough if YAST PKG Management would behave differently than zypper or PKGKit by not using the global default in zypp.conf. I see this as a loss of function. I'd prefer if YAST changes the solver settings for the current session only, or enables the user to make the change persistent by modifying the zypp.conf. But there may also be different wishes/needs on openSUSE vs. SLE. Let's ask Klaus for architectural advice. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I think we can agree not to save the 'vendor change' option because this might lead to a corrupted system. In my opinion also the 'cleanup deps' option is risky to save because it always requires a close look at the packages which will be deleted.
It might make sense to save the 'automatic check' option. It only deactivates the solving with every click, a solver run is always done when clicking OK. Also 'system verification' and 'ignore recommended for already installed packages' can be saved because only do additional actions.
If possible, please list in the help text what will get save. If this is not possible, please notify the user somehow that we will not save all options. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
