Usually it's put on sector gap between mbr and start of first partition. (So choose MBR as install location could fix your problem). Although legacy grub not support reading md array blocks, since RAID1 merely create duplicates (ie physical sector not mapped), it could support installing on RAID 1 using block-list still. I agree with that YaST should be awareness on this and do better propose to user.
