[Bug 349829] New: kiwi: vmlinux.gz not found if new kernel-rpm is provided
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=349829 Summary: kiwi: vmlinux.gz not found if new kernel-rpm is provided Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: System Imaging AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: Peter.Stark@fujitsu-siemens.com QAContact: adrian@novell.com Found By: --- Hi, I need some kernel fixes. Therefore I added the "kernel-default-2.6.22.12-2.3.x86_64.rpm" package via rpm-directory to my kiwi build environment. Then I get: Dec-19 17:16:02 <1> : Extracting kernel... failed Dec-19 17:16:03 <1> : Couldn't find compressed kernel IMHO you check for /boot/vmlinux.gz which does not exist in the above kernel RPM. Only /boot/vmlinux-2.6.22.12-2-default.gz is available. regards, Peter -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sometimes it helps if you specify rpm-md as repo type and adapt the source path accordingly (to the path where the repodata/ directory is)
hm... I do not understand what you mean. I've specified two sources: <repository type="yast2"> <source path="/install/openSUSE-10.3"/> </repository> <repository type="rpm-dir"> <source path="/install/fsc/rpms"/> </repository> The first is a loop-back mount of the orginal 10.3 DVD#1 and the other source is a directory with updated or addtional RPMs. Is my assumption incorrect that it *should* pick the updates from the rpm-dir if there's a newer version of the package found in the yast2 repo? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

but there must be a repodata/ directory in /install/openSUSE-10.3/suse I don't know if we provide it with the DVD (i guess not). Nop! Hm... I wanted to stay as close as possible to the original... well... I'll give it a try..
I'm in the loop to fix your vmlinuz problem the other problem can be addressed by Christoph Thiel
You mean the wrong kernel-default RPM? Is it enough to copy him on this notification or do I need to open a new bug in a different category? If so, which one?

You mean the wrong kernel-default RPM?
no I mean the smart problem installing two kernels where one is requested I would say open a bug assigned to cthiel. He is the smart maintainer and does a great job on the smart side -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
