error: terminal 'gfxterm' isn't found.
I could fix this error. It's due to GRUB_TERMINAL_INPUT not supporting "gfxterm". The error doesn't have side effect as it fallback to use locale attached inputs which is correct to gfxterm. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The text menu was shown because of grub2-branding-openSUSE not installed. You could try installing it and it should bring you a "graphical menu".
Yes, that's the case.
To clearify the issue, the grub2 uses gfxterm (in graphical mode) but draws text menu. For RC1 this remains expected because grub2-branding-openSUSE not included, and not a side effect by above two errors.
Then the grub2 spec file might need a line with Recommends: grub2-branding = 12.2 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Then the grub2 spec file might need a line with
Recommends: grub2-branding = 12.2
This is a good idea, as the package in recommends will be silently ignored if it's not available. Meanwhile, we are trying to get this package "available" in our installation media, see bnc#757683. Feel fee to comment if you think something has to be done in addition to that. Same applies to an install in German language.
GRUB loading. Welcome to GRUB!
error: file '/grub2/locale/de.mo.gz' not found error: terminal 'gfxterm' isn't found.
This error is not supposed be on German language. It's a bug because /boot/grub2/locale is completely empty, which isn't correct as the needed *.mo files are there. I know the reason is in grub2-install uses hard-coded grub.mo which is not present because we transformed the package name to grub2. A correct match to mo file is to use @PACKAGE@.mo. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hi Eduard,
Thanks a lot for testing and confirming the result.
For now, if you want to change the command line options, you have to move your highlight to the desired entry and type 'e' to edit. We may bring the F1-2-3-4-5 key and "Boot Options" back (maybe the most distinct openSUSE gfxboot feature) but not in 12.2 as we don't have too much time left.
The improvement to the theme (usability & looking and feel) probably the major task for 12.3.
12.3? Which is to come in 9-12 months? are you serious? Didn't you SuSE guys decide that a release comes when it's ready, not by a timeplan ? As for the look'n'feel+functionality - if I'm not mistaken grub2 has been running on Fedora and ubuntu for a while already, and there is a version with F1-5 or similar. Why not use things other distros spent time+effort already ? If it's really going to be the case I'll stick to 12.1 or even better 11.4 for another while... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Note that I am using en-gb locale, not sure if that has anything to do with this
I can confirm that the error is still present in the default installation of RC2 from a KDE liveCD. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

BTW, Michael, your patch doesn't help in RC2 anymore. opensuse branding is installed by default now.
That patch is needed to fix empty locale folder, without that patch on every locale this error was seen. Now only in en locale has the problem still. This is reported upstream currently. http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?35880 Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sorry .. above one is not correct, please use this one. :)
As discussed on grub-devel, this one is actually not quite correct too ... attached patch suppresses error return from function that opens catalog file. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
