If the server is not available, wireshark startup never completes. I expect that it is trying to verify the existence of the file; however, it never times out. If this option is not specified, the default value for foreground mounts is 2 minutes, and the default value for background mounts is 10000 minutes (80 minutes shy of one week). If a value of zero is specified, the mount(8) command exits immediately after the first failure. Please, could you set DEFAULT_LOGGING to "debug" in /etc/sysconfig/autofs, reproduce the problem again and attach /var/log/messages here? I'd also like to see the contents of /etc/sysconfig/autofs. To avoid these waits autofs should probe singleton mounts if it thinks mount.nfs will pass text options to the kernel (which of course implies the kernel supports this). Please, could you test the autofs package from this repository: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/filesystems/openSUSE_12.1/ and report if things improve? In addition, I no longer use automount for the NFS volumes. When the volume is not mounted, wireshark starts correctly. I think the problem was fixed upstream.
