--- Comment #20 from Daniel Pecka 2014-01-08 10:40:59 UTC ---
@johannes .. i generally agree with your points but i'd like to drop another
one just for considering .. init (systemd) method solution for foo should be
deployed within installation of foo (now talking about cups and his
init/systemd support) so i'd assume, that another splitting and exclusing this
integral parts to another package won't be good .. let's look at it as on
precedent
well, it's interesting question what all should systemd deploy as policy and
thus that as supported service .. in my opinion this would make more systemd
"bloating" and current (already bloated) state is in my opinion already sick
enough (sorry systemd guys) ..
# systemctl list-unit-files | grep cups
cups.path enabled
cups.service enabled
cupsd.service enabled
cups.socket enabled
# chkconfig -l 2>/dev/null| grep ^cups
cups 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:off 5:on 6:off
^^ sorry again, but i see this unclear, confusing and sick, can't help myself
.
i am not packager nor maintainer of any discussed piece (nor systemd, nor cups)
but i think that cups should deploy its methods at his own and this method
should be compatible with systemd (as far as it is suse init solution)
I think cups-systemd/systemd-cups must have a RPM requirement for cups
but cups must not have a RPM requirement for cups-systemd/systemd-cups
because the plain CUPS software can run without systemd
(without systemd it is up to the admin how to launch cupsd).
For cups a RPM recommends for cups-systemd/systemd-cups could be correct
or even better only a "Supplements: cups" in cups-systemd/systemd-cups
should be sufficient.
well, this is one exception i'd not (right now) agree with. I think that each
software should deploy its own support for current init solution (which is
systemd) directly and clearly .. it just means more work for maintainer to
incorporate systemd support but we (you) decided to incorporate systemd so bon
apetit :)
regards, daniel
