https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=346469 Summary: Crashed Firefox leaves lockfiles in profile, then refuses to start Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox AssignedTo: bnc-team-mozilla@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: vmarsik@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: System Test Firefox in openSuSE 10.3 writes two well-hiden lock files in the user's profile: lock and .parentlock . The second one is even hidden from normal view via 'ls'. When system/Firefox crashes, both these files are kept where they are. When the user tries to start Firefox second time, a dialog is displayed, saying, that Firefox is already running (which it is not), that the user should stop it (which he/she cannot do), or reboot the machine (which would not help at all). Then Firefox refuses to start. I am used to the first lockfile ('lock'), so it was not a problem for me to find and delete it. But I had to spend considerable time by finding the second one, the hidden '.parentlock', that I never saw before. I suppose that an ordinary user would have much more difficulties. It would be nice if the dialog offered the possibility to delete these locks, like 'vim' does. Testing if Firefox is really running could help as well. A command-line switch to suppress such dialogs would be useful to automatically display presentations using Firefox without any user interaction (like in shops). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
