The device _has_been_problematic_
I presently think it's a manufacturer issue ( USB to SATA interface plus power
from USB ).
As long as it is _only_ used with windows, it seems to work properly, as soon
as used with Linux and Windows alternating it gets into a state where sector 0
can't be read anymore and it is not recoverable.
After the last dropout I decided to dismantle the unit and test the hard drive
contained ( SAMSUNG HM250JI 250GB SATA ) directly in the notebook. It worked
fine, so I decided to leave it there.
Consequently the device no longer exists for testing :-(
I should suggest, that extreme care is taken if a Freecom device is detected.
As I can't provide information on this issue any more, I suggest it's closed as
LATER, until it pops up again.
