Hi,
We've talked about this in the GNOME meeting today and so far a few decisions
were made:
1. There won't be a GNOME2 effort for 12.1, we will try to improve the
'fallback' mode and provide a customized session as close as possible to the
old GNOME2 interface. This will be using the default GNOME3 font which is
Cantarell (which according to the information I have does have support for
cyrillic glyphs).
2. GNOME3 is defaulted with Cantarell and we're keeping it that way (which will
solve the issue with Russian Glyphs). There seemed to be a problem in the past
with Cantarell and spacing, but we were informed that it has been fixed
already.
3. It seems Jimmac is no longer maintaining the Fifth Leg font, so I'm not sure
if it would be a good idea to check the branding stuff on the -project list.
On a personal basis, considering the importance of the Russian speaking
community in openSUSE I do subscribe your efforts, and please keep us posted
about the your needs because I'm sure that the GNOME Team will try their best
into providing the best support possible for the Russian speaking community.
I'll leave up to you guys to decide if the bug can be closed or not, but it
seems it's a project/design thing here. Without GNOME2 not making it's way into
12.1 and with Cantarell supporting Cyrillic glyphs (default font for G3), it
seems to me it's a design/branding issue now.
