Thanks for the extra detail. That sort of detail helps a lot.
It appears that umount.nfs is trying to unmount te 'pub' directory
havin successfully unmounted 'tmp' - it processes the mounts in reverse
order.
I cannot imagine why it would be hanging there though.
If mountd on the server was not responding for some reason you would fairly
quickly get a timeout out, and as you haven't accessed the filesystem since
mounting it, there should be no need to contact the nfs server...
So I'm confused.
Could you try another experiment for me please?
Do exactly the same as before, but instead of running umount directly
run
strace -o /tmp/trace -f -s 200 umount -a -v
Then after is has been hanging for at least 20 seconds interrupt the
'strace' and attach the file '/tmp/trace' to this bug report.
