--- Comment #10 from Volker Kuhlmann 2007-06-24 00:00:07 MST ---
This is with the installed system. Booting without media in the optical drives
and booting with a CD in the cdrw drive makes no difference. No slowdowns when
ata_piix is loaded. All 3 drives are found:
[0:0:0:0] disk ATA SAMSUNG SP0802N TK20 /dev/sda
[0:0:1:0] cd/dvd ASUS DVD-ROM E616 2.0 -
[1:0:1:0] cd/dvd SONY CD-RW CRX225E QYB1 -
However, there are no block device entries in /dev for either of the optical
drives. The only block devices are for fd0, loop, mdN, and sda. There are
/dev/sg[012] corresponding to the 3 drives. A CD in the cdrw can be accessed
with cdrecord Media in either optical drive can not be mounted due to a lack of
a block device to mount them from. No scdN or srN around. Inserting media in
either drive after booting with empty drives does not cause any more block
devices to appear in /dev or any more output of dmseg.

Is this a separate bug or a symptom of the same problem?
