--- Comment #10 from Johannes Meixner 2008-05-28 04:39:01 MDT ---
I have attachment #218339 as bug-394678_proef.ps
and attachment #218340 as bug-394678_proef.pdf
on my opsenSUSE 11.0 beta3 system.
When I view them both directly with Ghostscript using
gs bug-394678_proef.ps
and
gs bug-394678_proef.pdf
I see that the fonts in bug-394678_proef.ps are bold
and in bug-394678_proef.pdf the fonts look normal.
The interesting part for me is that in both cases
there is no output from Ghostscript that it loads
whatever font from whatever file in the system.
To compare, do for example
gs /usr/share/YaST2/data/printer/testpg.ps
and you will get a Ghostscript message like
"Loading NimbusSanL-Regu font from /usr/share/ghostscript/fonts/n019003l.pfb"
As far as I see this shows that both bug-394678_proef.ps
and bug-394678_proef.pdf have all fonts already included.
Therefore it is the program which produced bug-394678_proef.ps
and bug-394678_proef.pdf which is responsible for the fonts.
I don't know what exactly OOo does to "export the document to PDF"
(perhaps it calls another program?) so that in this case other
fonts are included.
For bug-394678_proef.ps it is OOo itself which includes
too bold fonts but I cannot help you to find out why
because I don't know the internal font selection
mechanism in OOo.
Only a guess what might be related is bug #117730
"'print to file' uses printer settings".
What I mean in this particular case is that OOo may somehow
select the fonts dependent on the particular printer model
when it makes the PostScript which would be the reason why
you cannot reproduce it.
Alternatively:
If the bug reporter has additional font packages installed
(i.e. font packages which are not installed by default),
it can happen that an application chooses whatever other
(i.e. non default) fonts.
For an example have a look at bug #58113 and
http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2004-06/msg01489.html
If the reason is additional font packages, you may ask
Mike Fabian for further assistance.
