--- Comment #19 from Gerhard Mueller 2010-01-06 08:58:07 UTC ---
Thanks for your help.
I uninstalled all nvidia things
and then installed the drivers you mentioned in comment 11.
Works fine, no "failed"-messages in logfile any more.
One note: The commands of comment 18 did not run, seemingly not found.
I ran memtest86+ for more than 3 hours: No error.
One thought: Could it be, that the graphics card uses different parts of main
memory depending on its size, and nv is not aware of this?
After all this I detected a very, very surprizing thing:
My Grub entries (in the MBR) have changed during the repair actions.
Just to get logfiles of the other Linux systems installed in different
partitions of my hard disks, I clicked on their entries. Before the repair
actions the corresponding linux would start. Now another Grub screen appears
with the selections I earlier had.
But now the most surprizing fact:
openSUSE 11.1 (with KDE3) runs in "normal" mode (it did not run any more after
changing the main memory)
and also Debian Lenny Testing runs again.
Even the Ubuntu 9.10 CD and the Knoppix 6.2 DVD do now show a normal screen
display, before the actions for this bug they also showed the "colourful"
screen only.
I have no explanation for this. Did the other Linux systems now find the
correct Nvidia drivers or did the memtest repair some fault ??
