I'm sorry for not responding sooner.
I just tested with the 8.44 release and now the situation is the following:
- If I am on a running KDE3 session and start a second X-Server via 'Switch
User', my system doesn't freeze immediately any longer. But I experience, that
my system may go black after a while or when I switch between the virtual
consoles via the 'ALT+Function_Key' combo. I can still login via SSH from
another machine, but it's not possible to bring up the graphical system again
by calling 'rcxdm restart' or 'init 3' and 'init 5'. Pressing
'Ctrl+ALT+Backspace' on the affected machine doesn't help either. The only
solution is to reboot the affected machine via SSH.
- If I try to configure my graphics card via sax2, I experience one of the
following situations:
1. Sax reports an error while testing the configuration. (see the attached
Xorg.99.log)
2. The screen goes black like it was the case with 8.43 and the system is
frozen. I can't even login with SSH any longer.
Currently, it seems to be sometimes working, sometimes freezing and sometimes
just breaking the graphical system & framebuffer. It's not possible to
reproduce the different error states in a controlled way.
