I followed the instrucionts from [1] and [2]. The process was flawless, thank you for that! There is a slight problem wiht the apache - mysql - php tirumvirate: According to [3] you changed the mysql.sock file location to /var/run/mysql.sock. Probably that change was not reflected in the mod_php5/php5 (compilation time?) defaults and because of that mod_php5 cannot find the mysql.sock file. Adding the correct path to /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini => mysql.default_socket part solves the problem. Maybe I am missing something, but there are no *.rpmnew or *.rpmsave files in /etc in relation to this and manually downloading and checking the configuration files in apache2-mod_php5 and mysql rpms i was not able to find my error.
