--- Comment #21 from Jörg Schiling 2011-03-15 12:59:20 UTC ---
Let me comment your points:
1) there is no need to change the license from vcdimager, just do it the way
hundreds of other packages work already on Suse. If you believe that there is a
need for a license change because you seem to miss that the combination of the
legal other parts from vcdimager with libedc just creates a collective work
that is permitted by the GPL and by law.
2) there are no issues presented by you that prevent you from using the best
choice.
3) I hope that you understand that "compatibility" is not needed for a
collective work. There are hundreds of similar combinations that are widely
accepted.
4) If you have even a single verified different opinion from a lawyer, you are
free to present it to us. I am waiting since 6 years for such a note to no
avail. It seems to be safe to asume that none exists.
Jürgen, please do not claim wrong things about this discussion. The first state
change was done by Marcus Meissner after a requested information was made
available and the second state change was done by me because there was no
request for help by the assigned person from Suse.
Heiko and I are interested in the best solution and in order to to achieve
this, it of course helps to make valid statements and to be open. I hope you
are open to the best solution for this legal problem. The FSF is currently
responsible for this problem and it is a pitty that the FSF is not willing to
fix the problem on their own. This is why Suse has been contacted as a
redistributor. Please show us that Suse is not ignoring legal problems like the
FSF does.
