Please do not mix different systems to use vacation. This mostly can not work
as the format of the binary(!) database of different platform will be
different. See manual page man:vacation(1):
[...]
-F Force creation of .vacation.db even if the $HOME directory is
identified as a NFS file system. Please note that the used
data base is not portable between 32bit and 64bit
architectures
and also not portable between little and big endianess
architectures even same bit-wide is used for. Therefore the
initial creation of the .vacation.db should always happen on
the
server used for receiving mails for the specific user.
I had added this option anno 2004/06/22 including the warning in the manual
page due to the problems of using binary data bases (bug #41837). At it seems
that even with gdbm the problem is an ongoing one due to the version problem.
Maybe it would help to add on the SLES the gdbm library libgdbm4 in parallel to
libgdbm3 and use a vacation version which is linked with libgdbm4 only. The
only question is if the libgdbm4 does compile with SLES-11.
