--- Comment #27 from Jörg Schiling 2012-11-26 11:58:13 UTC ---
Previous Solaris implementations did require to run a suid root program
called "/usr/bin/pfexec" and in 2006, cdrtools have been started via a
shell script that called e.g.:
pfexec "`dirname $0`/`basename $0`.bin" "$@"
but this was a hack. So I mentioned at that time already that it would
be better to have an in-kernel pfexec implementation.
Since April 2010, an in-kernel pfexec is available and cdrtools manage
to get the required privileges completely without ever being root.
On Linux this all is not possible. Once Linux offers comparable features
in a way that cannot be uninstalled by a user, we could adopt cdrtools
to use that, but for now there is no way except for installing the files
cdrecord, cdda2wav and readcd suid root.
