https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=327570 Summary: overrated quality of signal reception Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I don't know where the problem lies, but it looks like this: Two rooms, A (with router) and B (with computer with intel wifi card -- this one works perfectly, it is turned on). Now, I have laptop with broadcom wifi card. In room A -- I can connect to the net, I can download stuff, no problems. Knetworkmanager shows 4 bars when connected, the AP bar on the list is ~90% filled. I move with this computer to room B, put it on the table next to the one mentioned above. Quality of the signal -- unchanged (I can restart computer to make sure it is not the effect of delay of refreshing info). And there is a difference: * I am connected (in theory), but I can't get anything from the net * if I disconnect I cannot connect again (KNM shows only dialog with password and says to try again) My complain here is about misinforming the user about the reception quality -- could be bug in hardware? Firmware? Networkmanager? Another story is so huge difference in ability to pick up the signal, but maybe intel is so far superior and broadcom cannot make connection to the other room. I would be glad to help to solve this problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
