One additional remark:
I have tried to find the root cause for the slow performance myself and I
assume that it is Java. If I disable Java, all files (even documents with more
than 100 pages) will be opened rapidly.
I have disabled Java, but LibreOffice will then start with an Error Message
("LibreOffice requires a Java runtime environment to perform this task. Please
install a JRE and restart LibreOffice...").
The relevant function, which requires Java, seems to be - inter alia - the
automatic spellcheck.
Older versions of Opensuse / Openoffice (up to versions 11.3 / 3.2.1) do not
show this effect. It is not a real "bug", but it is annoying, especially if you
have to handle larger files and if you need the automatic spellcheck.
