https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=643874 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=643874#c0 Summary: Video flicker with Intel GM45 chipset Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: carlos.e.r@opensuse.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Re: Video flicker with Intel GM45 chipset Classifying as "kernel" as I understand the video in 11.3 is integrated on the kernel. Change classification if not, I don't see a "video" component. This report is branched from Bug 605856, comment 5. This is a Compaq Presario CQ61-330SS laptop (SMOLT profile http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_2c303e01-12a6-44f6-8128-f8df1d7ce080), having both 11.2 (work) and 11.3 (test) partitions. This report is about 11.3-GM (64 bit), there is no problem in 11.2 The partition was installed from M6 DVD, then zypper dupped to GM. I suspected the video in 11.3 is not up to standards. So I tried the game "extreme-tuxracer", the screen flickers so much as to be unusable. I started it from a xterm, and I see a lot of messages like this: Couldn't reference dri2 back buffer handle 0x00000004: No such file or directory Couldn't reference dri2 back buffer handle 0x00000004: No such file or directory Couldn't reference dri2 back buffer handle 0x00000004: No such file or directory And, glxgears renders 62 FPS, both in small window or full screen. In the same machine, with 11.2 installed, glxgears runs at 400 FPS on a window, and about 62 maximized. And etracer runs without a flicker. Thus, no hardware issue. Those two apps use advanced video features, and work much worse in 11.3 than in 11.2 - as I feared. Thus, Intel video continues to be broken in linux. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
