--- Comment #14 from Egbert Eich 2011-04-20 10:04:29 UTC ---
The 'infinite loop' messages occurs because the Xserver main thread is busy
waiting on some graphics operation to complete which never does.
If the user then moves the mouse to see what's going on the input event queue
fills up as pointer events are handled asynchronously but cannot be serviced.
I'm afraid that no promises can be made when such issues will get fixed as
nouveau is purely a reverse engineering effort with no support at all from the
NVIDIA side while GPUs are rather complicated beasts.
For now the best we can do is to disable acceleration where problems arise.
Let's record the PCI ids of the NVIDIA chipsets we are seeing reported here and
work from there.
Here it is a: 10de:0a3c:17aa:2145 (nva5).
I doubt that disabling acceleration will downgrade performance as much as that
the system will become unusable. Desktop effects should automatically become
disabled. Scrolling and moving windows might become slightly jerky however
starting up applications should not be affected much as this involves little
rendering - Unless of course apps rely heavily on OpenGL rendering: those will
become rather unusable.
