It is a more generic problem, not just GNOME. There are a number of 32bit
packages having a 64bit package among their requires. Here is my current
collection from factory as of 2008-04-09:
xxx itrace-0.9-138.ppc.rpm xxx
itrace-kmp-ppc64
xxx nss-mdns-0.9-69.ppc.rpm xxx
nss-mdns-64bit = 0.9
Found using:
factory:/mnt/factory/suse/ppc # ls *.rpm | egrep -v '(ppc64|64bit)' > /tmp/l
factory:/mnt/factory/suse/ppc # for i in `cat /tmp/l` ; do echo xxx $i xxx ;
rpm -qRp $i | egrep '(ppc64|64bit)' ; done > /tmp/64
The first one brings in the 64bit PPC kernel the second one 64bit glibc. If any
of these are installed, then many other 64bit packages are installed on an
upgrade or just a simple package installation.
The only working solution is to remove any references to 64bit packages from
32bit ones.
