Ah - IPv6 is disabled by default in alpine on Linux. Comments in Makefile and C
code say that this is because getaddrinfo() was broken for IPv6 in some
versions of glibc. As we have glibc versions that certainly don't have that
problem anymore, we could enable it.
BUT I hesitate to do so, because IPv6 support in alpine seems to be incomplete
in a way that has the potential of breaking proper installations.
The problem is, that alpine only attempts to connect to the first address in
the list returned by getaddrinfo() (to mimic the behaviour of gethostbyname()),
which e.g. breaks when the server has an IPv6 address, but the daemon alpine
asks for only listens on IPv4, or when there is no IPv6 routing between the two
machines despite both having IPv6 addresses.
Eduardo, do you know if re-alpine is any better in that respect?
