https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=211556 Summary: package installation should prefer local install + rpmpatch to downloading whole new package on slow networks Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sbrabec@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com CC: mvidner@novell.com Problem description: 1. I have complete 10.1 on my DVD and slow network connection. 2. I want to install new package, which was also released as online update (e. g. kernel-source). Current behavior: Download complete package over slow network. (1 hour) Expected behavior: Install locally available package, then apply delta. (3+3+3 minutes). In this particular case, it is a regression comparing to 10.0. Possible fix: Compute expected time of all possible ways to get the package. It needs to know network/DVD speed for each installation source and be able to guess additional time needed for applying delta. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
