It only fails if you load modules which partly inintialize and then fails to
work, but it has already requested a device node. You should be able to see
that in dmesg.
The failing module overwrites the former device node, and after the failing it
gets removed, and the restoring of the former node gets confused, because it
only handles symlinks, and not device nodes. Its not supported in current udev
to have multiple devices competing about the same device name, it works only if
the conflicting names are both symlinks.
Can't we be sure, that we have an always working rtc0 and disable the old rtc
misc device?
