--- Comment #11 from Lawrence Somerville 2013-12-23 03:13:47 UTC ---
Thanks, Petr Gajdos, for kindly posting something here. As far as openSUSE
Linux is concerned, I switched from using version 12.3 to using version 13.1 of
the openSUSE Linux operating system. Therefore it is not so convenient for me
to perform a test in an openSUSE-12.3, Linux operating system.
But using the latex2html software package supplied via Yet another Software
Tool
2 (YaST2) for openSUSE-13.1 I found the same problem with "Image" displayed
instead of a fraction after LaTeX and LaTeX2HTML executions on a .tex file
containing LaTeX code of the form \frac{1}{2}. And gratefully I was able to
solve this problem by uninstalling the latex2html software packages from an
openSUSE-13.1 installation via YaST2 and then installing LaTeX2HTML from
latex2html-2012.tgz obtained by clicking on the hyperlink reading
latex2html-2012.tgz on the Web page with the Uniform Resource Locator (URL)
http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/support/latex2html. Please note the versions
of
LaTeX2HTML and TeX Live mentioned in this grateful success:
LaTeX2HTML Version 2012 (1.2)
LaTeX, which after the command "latex -v" cited pdfTeX 3,1415926-2.5-1.40.14
(TeX Live 2013/TeX Live for SUSE Linux).
However, I did not achieve this success until I gave full permissions to anyone
using my installation of the openSUSE-13.1, Linux operating system to read and
write in numerous directories. Without expanding those permissions there were
"Permission denied" messages following at least some of the commands
"./configure --prefix=/usr", "make", and/or "make install". I have had the
software package entitled texlive-dvips installed in openSUSE 13.1 during this
grateful success. If texlive-dvips being missing from the dependencies of a
latex2html-related software package was responsible for the problems of YaST2's
LaTeX2HTML in openSUSE 12.3 not properly interpreting the LaTeX code for a
fraction like \frac{1}{2}, please consider looking for that same possible
problem in the LaTeX2HTML-related software packages provided by YaST2 for
openSUSE 13.1.
