Not sure about yum. But what Smart does is download the RPMs, and before
installing them check if there are file conflicts.
Isn't ideal, you have already downloaded RPMs and now they can't be
installed... but you know there is a problem. In the past I have reported
packaging problems because Smart informed me about them, with zypper behavior I
would have never saw them.
Smart isn't perfect neither. It doesn't allows you to force the installation if
there are file conflicts, something you can want while the package is fixed. So
you need to install the package manually through rpm.
I would prefer the default behavior to be the same than Smart. I could
understand somebody else would prefer files to be overwritten... but I would
say at least an option to use Smart behavior is a must.
Between, "repodata" directory has a "filelists.xml.gz" file. Isn't supposed to
have the file lists? I though I was not used just because of the big size, but
perhaps could be optionally downloaded and used?
