Thanks for providing information.
I have checked the log files and the packet trace, And have no idea why short
name would fail.
when using FQDN, OPENPRINTERX and GETPRINTERDATA both succeed.
when using short name, they both succeeded too, And even the return data from
packet capture is the same for GETPRINTERDATA in both cases. Thus, there is no
reason that one succeeded and another one failed.
Sorry that I have no environment to handle this. first to make clear the
environment:
1. printer server is 10.9.1.52, And it uses cups.
where does the printer actually reside? I mean does the printer connect to
10.9.1.52 through parallel port or IPP(printer is actually on another host).
2. Was driver installed on your XP client?
And pls do:
1. post your smb.conf onto bugzilla
2. try \\10.9.1.52\canes to see if it works
3. try \\shortname\printername with your windows server, ie, use short name to
print on windows server to see if it succeeds.
