--- Comment #3 from Stefan Dirsch
No, just saving the configuration without testing doesn't help either. When I switch to runlevel 5, the screen is just black (even the framebuffer died and all the virtual consoles are black). But I can still login via SSH and reboot the system. I don't had those problems with pervious versions of fglrx on this system. Running multiple Xservers was never a problem, until now. Could you check if there is a Modeline defined in /etc/X11/xorg.conf after running SaX2? If yes, please remove it. This can happen if your monitor does not support DDC. Please attach /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
This script has become useless, but it's not required anyway as long as our kernel (updates) remains kABI compatible. It will be removed for the next update. Does this applies only for the latest fglrx release (8.43.3) and following ones? No, this applies to all kmp packages we ever released.
I'm asking, because on my Thinkpad T60p, I had to run this script after every minor kernel update. If I did not, the Xserver started and I could login to KDE, but one of my cpu cores had 100% load all the time. After I ran this script, removed and reloaded the fglrx module and restarted X, everything was fine again. Sure that you did use the packages from the ATI repository and did not build the RPMs yourself?
