net.ifnames=0 fixes udev, apparently:
susi:~ # dmesg|grep renamed
[ 3.330201] systemd-udevd[363]: renamed network interface eth0 to cable
[ 4.679280] systemd-udevd[361]: renamed network interface wlan0 to air
Note that it seems that a later job (compare the PIDs and timestamps of this
boot and the previous one) is now doing the job.
The persistent-net.rules is very old (from the first installation of this
continuously updated installation which happened probably in early 2010) and
even though it gets touched from time to time:
susi:~ # l /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 949 Mar 14 08:12
/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
I checked my backups and it is identical to the last full backup from March 8
and probably much older backups (would need to dig out the incremental
backups).
But this probably got me on the right track:
susi:~ # lsinitrd /boot/initrd-3.14.0-rc6-3.gd1a7ba5-desktop |grep e1000e.ko
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 397752 Mar 14 08:09
lib/modules/3.14.0-rc6-3.gd1a7ba5-desktop/kernel/drivers/net/ethernet/intel/e1000e/e1000e.ko
=> the ethernet module is in the initrd, the wireless lan module is not.
susi:~ # lsinitrd /boot/initrd-3.14.0-rc6-3.gd1a7ba5-desktop |grep persistent
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 298 Mar 14 08:09
etc/udev/rules.d/59-persistent-storage.rules
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1031 Mar 14 08:09
etc/udev/rules.d/61-persistent-storage.rules
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5807 Mar 4 18:51
usr/lib/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules
So this looks like yet another dracut bug...
