Even after the initial boot to finalise the installation X worked. After that I rebooted the system, and X was white with a block cursor. Ctrl-Alt-F1 etc still works, and the mouse cursor works. I am using KDE, but I think it is more an X issue, because if I start X using Xorg from the command line, it also doesn't start properly. It is not white, but black, and when I flip between virtual sessions and back to X, it is poluted with some of the boot-up text.
